Here
is our curriculum:
Reading
We use a reading series, phonics, and other literature. A literacy block
will also supplement our reading. We will continue to use Reading Counts,
a computer reading program.
Reading, writing, listening and talking are integrated into the program.
Spelling is from our Reading.
Math We will be implementing
many strategies and methods that use a lot of hands on, and real life
connections. We will be following Colorado State Math Standards and our
own district’s math curriculum map. We also take timed tests several
times a week on math facts from 0 to 18 addition and then subtraction.
Each child moves at his or her own pace.
Social Studies Our curriculum
is called Exploring Why and Where. We will be learning geography and map
skills. We also study communities and countries that are mentioned in our
reading text.
Health
eyes and ears
Science We learn about
Processing Skills, plants, and water. We also study various animals as
they are mentioned in our reading text.
Report Cards We use
the same report card as the first grade. But we view it from a second
grade perspective. It is specific to the skills that your child has
mastered and those he/she may need to work on.
Homework Each child should read
every night and study spelling words every night. There will sometimes be
a reading assignment or spelling worksheet, and quite often a math
homework sheet.
Snack We will have a snack time
each morning during our recess time. This is optional. If you send a snack
please send a healthy snack.
