Prescriptive Role of the
Resource Room Teacher |
| Within
the prescriptive role, the resource room teacher is responsible for the
following tasks: develop
tasks, strategies, and materials appropriate to a handicapped student's
identified needs and individually tailored instructional program;
coordinate learning tasks in the resource room with those of the regular
classroom to provide consistency in educational programming and to
increase student performance in the least restrictive environment;
instruct a specific number of students according to service guidelines;
maintain a physical environment which provides a successful atmosphere
for the student; report student progress to the regular classroom
teacher for inclusion in the student's report card at regular intervals;
prepare a review of the individualized education
program. |

Consultative Role of the Resource Room
Teacher |
| Within
the consultative role, the resource room teacher is responsible for the
following tasks: disseminate information related to the resource room
program to the school staff through informal discussions; provide
specific strategies and materials suggestions to classroom teachers for
students requiring adaptive program adjustments within the
mainstream; provide support to the regular class teacher through
routinely scheduled consultation related to the identified students'
progress in the resource and regular classroom; consult with parents of
identified resource room students to report the results of assessment,
proposed programming, and Individualized Education Program (IEP);
consult with parents of identified resource room students to report
progress as a joint responsibility with the regular class teacher;
participate in staffings as appropriate; and participate in due process
proceedings for an individual student as needed.
