WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS?

  • Students must sign a contract agreeing to continue with band for the entire year.

  • Grades will be given each quarter, based on progress, home practice, concerts, responsibility and commitment.

  • Parents are expected to keep instruments in good working order and to monitor home practices.

HOW CAN PARENTS HELP?

  • Provide a quiet place in which to practice. Thirty minutes practice per day is recommended.

  • Schedule a consistent daily time for practice.

  • Remain nearby during practice times as often as possible.

  • Praise your child's effort and achievements.

  • Encourage your child to play for family and friends.

  • Make sure your child's instrument is always in good working order.

  • Expose your child to a wide variety of music.

Numerous studies have shown that students in band
consistently get higher grades
and better SAT test scores
