Each quarter the 6th
graders focus on a different type of writing genre or style. Below
is a breakdown of what we focus on. |

QUARTER ONE:
- Sentences: Writing elaborative and complex sentences (... and
avoiding fragments, run-ons, structure)
- Parts of Speech: Subject and Predicate, nouns, verbs, adjectives,
adverbs, etc.
- Descriptive Writing: Writing descriptive paragraphs, stories,
essays
- Letter Writing: Business letters, friendly letters, etc.

QUARTER TWO:
- Narrative: This involves the process of sequencing the actions and
events of characters/people in time and space with the intent to
share a story with the intended audience
- Instructional: This involves the process of logically and
systematically sequencing the steps of a task with the intent to
provide guidance to the intended audience

- Paragraph Writing

QUARTER THREE:
- Extended Writing:
- Answer to a specific prompt:
- Expository: Factual writing, reports, research papers
- Persuasive: This involves the process of asserting and supporting
a position or a proposal through appeal strategies with the intent
to convince the intended audience.
