Each quarter the 6th graders focus on a different type of writing genre or style.  Below is a breakdown of what we focus on.

QUARTER ONE:
  • Sentences: Writing elaborative and complex sentences (... and avoiding fragments, run-ons, structure)
  • Parts of Speech: Subject and Predicate, nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.
  • Descriptive Writing: Writing descriptive paragraphs, stories, essays
  • Letter Writing: Business letters, friendly letters, etc.
QUARTER TWO:
  • Narrative: This involves the process of sequencing the actions and events of characters/people in time and space with the intent to share a story with the intended audience
  • Instructional: This involves the process of logically and systematically sequencing the steps of a task with the intent to provide guidance to the intended audience
  • Book Reports:
  • Paragraph Writing
QUARTER THREE:
  • Extended Writing:
  • Answer to a specific prompt:
  • Expository: Factual writing, reports, research papers
  • Persuasive: This involves the process of asserting and supporting a position or a proposal through appeal strategies with the intent to convince the intended audience.

  • Myth/Folkflore
