Performance Expectations &

Dress Appearance

Whenever the CCMS Band appears in public

we are representatives of our school and community.

This is an awesome responsibility that belongs

to every member of the band.

At all times members of the CCMS Band

will conduct themselves in a

responsible, courteous, respectful and professional manner.

CONCERTS

During concert performances, each band will watch the other band perform.

Seventh grade will perform first and eighth grade will perform afterwards.

While the 7th grade band is performing, the 8th grade band will sit together quietly

and watch with honor and consideration.

Students will not be allowed to leave the performance area without permission.

While the 8th grade band is performing, the 7th grade band will sit together quietly

and show the same honor and consideration.

Students may not leave in the middle of the performance.

Do not invite non-band students to sit with you during concerts.

Our concert uniform will be white dress shirts (no t-shirts or spaghetti straps),

black dress pants or skirts and black dress shoes and black socks.

CANON CITY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

CHRISTMAS PARADE OF LIGHTS

Preparation for the parade and the Blossom Festival Parade in the spring will include

7th and 8th grade band members rehearsing together to learn basic marching fundamentals.

That means more than 120 students will be assembled together

during class and for the parade performance.

Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated with this many students.

Your entire 200 points can be lost at any performance due to poor behavior choices.

There is no concert uniform for the Christmas parade.

Instead we will be dressing warm for the weather.  Yes, that will include wearing winter coats!

Students are also welcome to wear Santa hats, reindeer ears, etc.

Instruments may be decorated with bows, garland, lights, etc. for this event.

PLEASE BE CAREFUL when decorating your instrument

and test play it before the parade performance.

What is most important is that your instrument plays properly.

LARGE GROUP FESTIVAL CONTEST

This is a concert band competition in which we will be graded and given constructive comments

on our ensemble performance from 3 highly qualified and respected judges.

We will not be competing against other bands, only judged on our own performance.

This contest takes place sometime during the month of April.

We will wear our concert band attire (black and white) for this performance.

Our appearance and behavior will be graded as part of our final score for this event.

CANON CITY MUSIC

AND BLOSSOM FESTIVAL PARADE

This parade is a marching band competition in which we will be graded on musical performance, marching fundamental execution, and general appearance.

We will all need to dress alike for this parade performance.

We have a uniform shirt which will be checked out to each member to wear for the parade.

You will also need to wear black dress pants, black socks and black shoes.

There are no exceptions.

Any variations from the items listed above will cost us greatly on our general appearance score.

Failure to return the parade shirt or returning a damaged or dirty shirt will result

in being charged for the cleaning and/or replacement of the shirt.

FREMONT RE-1 SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST

This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to prepare a solo (with piano accompanist)

or ensemble music selection to be listened to and graded by a qualified judge.

The judge will offer written and verbal constructive comments of your performance.

Both 7th and 8th grade students are strongly encouraged to participate in this event.

Students do not compete against each other.

They are only graded on the quality of their own music performance.

Solo and Ensemble Contest will be held at Canon City High School

either at the end of February or the beginning of March.

Students will be required to pay an entry fee in advance (non-refundable).

Last year's fees were $10.00 per entry.

More specific information about fees will be given to those interested in participating

during the month of January.

Appropriate music will be selected by Mrs. Nolan and participants.

Students who do decided to participate will be required to sign up for private lessons

at least once a week with Mrs. Nolan during the months of February and March

 to prepare their musical selections.

Lessons will be scheduled before and after school.

If a musical solo or ensemble is not "performance ready" one week before Contest,

they will not be permitted to participate.

Concert dress for this event is clothing that would be considered your "Sunday Best".

More specific information will be provided as we get closer to this event.

CCMS JAZZ BAND

This is an extra-curricular activity for students currently in the concert band program at CCMS.  Rehearsals will begin sometime during second semester

and will be held once a week in the band room.

Performances will include a spring concert, a possible performance

during the Canon City Music and Blossom Festival and a tour of the local elementary schools.

More specific information about rehearsal date and time will be provided

to those students interested in participating as we get close to the start of rehearsals.
