Guitar Class

The students will become proficient with 12 basic “first position” chords.  Theory lessons include:

1.        Chromatic scale

2.        Diatonic scale

3.        Basic song and chord construction

4.        I, IV & V theory

Students will learn the fundamentals of classical, country, blues and rock guitar styles.  Basic strum and lead patterns will be included.  At least 10 guitar “riffs” will be graded on, these may include Sweet Home Alabama, Louie, Louie and portions of Stairway To Heaven.  Student will view and be graded on several videos that include guitar construction, history of rock guitar and various concerts. Basic guitar construction will include: changing strings, selecting a quality guitar as well as, how they are assembled.  Students will be required to keep a notebook with all handouts and notes taken during lectures.  These are scored and along with participation account for a good portion of their grade.  The guitar class operates more on a ”lab” format, with plenty of practice time designed into the class.
