Parents

What Good Parents of 5th Graders Do:

  • Read and sign planners every night

  • Go over graded papers with child; praise and discuss!

  • Take time several times a week to listen to your child read a few pages of his/her AR book.

  • Check AR reading progress to see that adequate progress is being made towards your child's point goal.

  • Read the Family Letter that is sent home at the beginning of each math unit.

  • Look at the study link math worksheets that come home most nights; they are like a little test to see if your child grasped the concepts taught that day.

  • Cheerfully give the practice spelling tests on Monday and Tuesday nights; Wednesday if needed. (First try tests are given on Wednesday; second try tests are given on Thursday.)

Dear Parents,

I know you want to do everything you possibly can to help your student succeed. Here is some information to help you stay informed and support your child's progress.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO IS TO CHECK YOUR STUDENT'S  PLANNER EVERY DAY. It is the way you and I stay in touch with each other on a daily basis.

Students are to write the assignments that they have to complete at home in the planner. They are to get the planner signed by parents every day.

I will also send home weekly grade reports on Mondays starting the second week of every quarter, and I will continue to send weekly reports until the end of the quarter. Students will have until Friday of that week to complete any missing assignments

A grade can be raised unless the quarter has ended. Students can see me any time if they want to raise their grade. It usually involves completing assignments that weren't yet completed.

Also, I will send home weekly AR reports. (Accelerated Reading). Accelerated Reading involves reading student selected books of the correct grade leve, and counts as ¼ of the reading grade. Students take computer tests on these books. They must get 60% or better to get points for that book. Please notice how many points your child has each week. Students are given a point goal at the beginning of the quarter that is appropriate for their reading level. Meeting 100% of the point goal would be an A for AR, meeting 90 - 95 % of the goal would be an A-, etc.

Feel free to contact me through a written note in the planner, or through the school at 276-5970. Make sure you ask the secretary to inform me if you leave a voicemail message, because I have no way of knowing that otherwise. After school you can contact me directly in my room at 276-5982.
