Peer Counselor Training

Peer Counselors go through a very intense training program covering the course of their Senior Year.  At the beginning of the school year very basic information about confidentially and active listening skills are introduced and discussed.  As the year progresses and students become more proficient with their skills, more advanced techniques dealing with issue like grief counseling, peer relationships and some basic family issues.   Peer Counselors spend their day helping students with very basic issues to more advanced issues.  One of the first things counselors look for are situations that need to be referred to the high school counselors or other professionals in the community.  Throughout the course of the year, Peer counselors develop a bond that unites these students for many years to come.
