My
name is Dana Kalipolites and I am one of five special education
teachers at Canon City High School.
I have a BA in Elementary Education and a Masters of Science in
Special Education, kindergarten through twelve grades.
My experience includes six years teaching at a Diagnostic
Treatment Center in New York with severely physically disabled
children ages 6 months to adult. I also taught one year at Cedar Springs Hospital in Colorado
Springs in the Day Treatment Program with middle and high school
students. Working for six
years as a special education teacher at the Canon City Middle was a
great introduction to the “inclusion” philosophy. Now on my third
year as a special education teacher at the Canon City High School, we
are going to implement an exclusionary model, because all students
have a legal right to a free and appropriate public education.
There
are many web sites that give teachers and families information about
their student and child’s special educational needs.
