LETTER OF INTRODUCTION

FOR

K-2 SPECIAL EDUCATION

My name is Deeann Jayson and I will be your child’s special education teacher during their kindergarten, first, and second grade years at Lincoln Elementary School.  I have a BA in elementary education and a MA in early childhood/special education.  My experience includes 4 years teaching in the regular classroom and 13 years working with children who have special needs.  I have also taught early childhood classes for Pueblo Community College.

Because all children have a legal right to a free and appropriate public education, Lincoln school follows an “inclusive” philosophy.  As much as appropriate each child is educated with his same age peers.  Small instructional groups are organized to meet the goals/objectives as described on each child’s Individual Education Plan.  Goals and objectives are aligned to the Colorado state standards.  To ensure success, modifications and/or accommodations are implemented to honor each child’s learning style.

There are many web sites designed to give families information about their child's special needs.  Some to explore include:

http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdesped/index.asp

http://www.cec.sped.org/

http://ww.dec-sped.org/

There are also many websites that offer activities and practice worksheets for young children, such as:

Please feel free to call with your questions and concerns.  Volunteering to work with individual students or to help with clerical tasks is always welcomed at Lincoln.
