Alert Program

The Alert Program helps children monitor how "their engine is running".  When they are in "high speed" they may find it difficult to pay attention, sit quietly or finish work.  When their engine is in "low" speed they may find it hard to concentrate or may feel like a "couch potato".  If their engine is "just right", it is usually easier to pay attention and to get work completed.  If you want to help your child change their engine speed from "high" to "low" or to "just right" try these activities:

  • Put something in your mouth (eat hard candy, crunchy or chewy foods)

  • Move (do isometrics, walk quickly, run up and down stairs, dance)

  • Touch (fidget with a Koosh Ball, rub skin vigorously, pet or play with an animal)

  • Look (put bright lights on in a room, dim lights, watch fish in an aquarium)

  • Listen (listen to classical music, avoid loud, noisy places if you are in high speed)
