A Pawsitive Approach
There's a thread of goodness that runs through all of God's creatures. The recognition
of that goodness doesn't come from our intellectual power, but from the innate sense of
"right." It seems that dogs may have the ability to sense that goodness before we do.
Fortunately for us, they are blinded to our many imperfections as we should be blinded to each other. It doesn't matter to our canine friends if you are in a wheelchair, or if you have limited cognitive ability, or if you look unusual because of a syndrome. What matters to them is that you are you. That is enough for our canine friends as it should be enough for us. It is in fact a reflection of the inclusion philosophy which recognizes and values diversity. Therefore, the mission of canine-facilitated learning is to promote the use of a canine companion to encourage the learning and participation of all children within a school community. |
