Homework ALERT !!!!!

First grade homework should only take about TEN MINUTES.

The homework log lists several things you could do with your child

for homework. I send home most of it every day so you will have a choice of things to do. I DO NOT expect you to do everything

on the list or all of the things that come home in your child’s

take-home folder. Please only choose ONE activity each day. If your child does homework THREE days each week, he/she will be rewarded. For every FIVE days of homework done, your child will earn a sticker. When he/she has earned TWENTY stickers, he/she will receive a work-free day. (Your child may play

at centers while the rest of us do our daily work.)

I put a HOMEWORK LOG in your child’s take-home folder today. If you will mark it daily and leave it in the folder, I will take it out every Monday and record the results on your child’s homework chart.

*Your child checked out a book from the school library today for the first time. We go to the library on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your child may check out a new book every day that you have read the old one to him/her. There is a place to check this off on the HOMEWORK LOG. Use the same spot on the HOMEWORK LOG to make that you have worked with your child on RAIN (or any other self-selected book that your child brings home to share with you).

*We are studying the letter A this week in Letter Collector. Your child may bring an item whose name begins with either the short or long sound of A, or they may draw a picture of an item that starts with A. I am stressing to the children that A is a vowel, it has a short and a long sound and the proper way to write it.

*The SPELLING WORDS this week are I-me-you-and like. If your child does ‘homework’; like practicing them with you orally, or writing them, or shaping them out of play-doh, etc., please mark the homework log to reflect the work. The highlighted words on the list in your child’s take-home folder will be the ones that I have introduced and the children should learn. When your child can spell each word, I will mark the words on this list. Please leave it in the take-home folder and I will update it each week when I introduce the new words.
