Grades

When my sons were in school, my main questions were:

  • What are they learning?

  • Are they working at grade level?

  • What can I do at home to help?

The first/second grade report card attempts to answer the first two of these questions.

When grading achievement we  use the same grading symbols that the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) employs:

A=The student is Advanced in the knowledge of this skill. The skill is applied and used in new situations.

P=The skill has been introduced and the child is Proficient in applying the skill.

PP=The skill has been introduced and the child is Partially Proficient in applying the skill; however the student still needs reminding and prompting.

U=The student has had time to practice the skill, but is still Unsatisfactory in applying the skill.

When grading work skills and conduct we use the following symbols:

O-Outstanding

S-Satisfactory

U-Unsatisfactory

We give very few formal tests at this level.  Most of the assessments consist of teacher observation.  You will get a better idea of what and how your child is doing by participating in your child's daily homework.  You will see the reading level of the books brought home and have the opportunity to practice the math skills that are being taught.

Report cards are issued at the end of each quarter. Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled at the end of the first quarter of school.  Please feel free to schedule a meeting at any time you have concerns or questions.
