Since Garden Park has been in existence there has been a discovery program to help students re-learn how to act and behave in society.  Recently there was a "mentor" program also put into place so that current GPHS students could help prospective GPHS students succeed.  Below is a list of objectives that the mentors are required to complete on their own on top of the many activities and assignments that being a mentor requres.

MENTORING TO-DO

Checklist

This checklist has been created to make sure that you have done everything that you can do in order to continue the success of the mentoring program. Hopefully, this checklist can be a useful tool in making sure that your mentee has every opportunity to succeed at GPHS.

I have spent at least two mods working with or around my mentee for a full 50 minutes by the time they finish Discovery. Make sure that they know that a 50 minute mod means 50 minutes of work.

I have engaged my mentee in at least one weekly conversation involving his or her life outside of school.

I have spent at least 3 mods working with or around my mentee for a full 50 minutes after Discovery.

My mentee understands what an appropriate music level is.

I have talked with my mentee and outlined verbally what types of tasks need to be taken care of during break instead of academic time. (example- bathroom, food, ……)

My mentee understands that his or her books and personal possessions should be kept with him or her wherever he or she is working.

I have explained to my mentee that there is no seating chart and that it does not matter where he or she sits because it may be hard to focus on work if you sit by friends. Everyone in our culture will show you respect, give you space if needed, and give you support if necessary.

I have made it clear, in a friendly tone, that any one student will be sacrificed in order to maintain the dignity of the culture. Students of GPHS take pride in their school and neighborhood by occasionally picking up trash, respecting property, and treating everyone with dignity and respect. We don’t just say this. HERE, AT GPHS, WE LIVE THIS.

Your signature means that you accept responsibility not for the

actions of your mentee but that you have given them this information

and that they understand it.

Turn this paper in to Pierre when finished and signed.
