At
Garden Park there are basically three types of classes that are taught.
The first type are called “pull-out” classes that are taught in a
classroom away from the main computer lab.
The next type, that are called roads scholars, are experience
based courses, and held mostly outside of the school.
The final, and most basic type of class at Garden Park is the
online course work. When a
course is assigned, the student can log on to his or her class using a
password. When they are
logged in, they are taken to a screen that looks something like this.

My
Classes
|
|
Of course they
won’t have this many math classes, but they will be able to click on
any of the classes that are displayed here.
They can be assigned classes such as English, geography,
economics, or most anything.
After they have clicked on a class, a menu of topics will be displayed.
Here is an example of what the menu looks like.
As you can see,
there are reading sections and then assignment sections.
Each of the reading sections has several resource links built
into the lesson. So if a
student runs into a sticking point, they have several options, one of
them being the assistance of a teacher.
When a student clicks on a submission, this is what they see.
(Notice the “click here” highlighted at the top of the page.
This is so the students can flip back and forth between the
lesson and the work as needed)

Submission
31
You have looked at it two times before. There are 10
questions worth 10 points.
SPECIAL NOTE TO STUDENTS: For assistance with this
submission please click
here at anytime to review the online chapter.

At any point the
students can save the exact point where they have left off or they may
submit their answers for grading. They can then return to that point at
any time, or move on to the next topic.
This can be done at school or anywhere else in the world that
they have access to the Internet.
After all of the reading and assignment sections have been completed,
they are informed that they are to take a midterm or final test (which
will not be displayed here for obvious reasons).
These tests are written instead of online.
This makes sure that the student hasn’t sidestepped the system
in some way. Also, if the
student doesn’t do well on a test, the online program will re-assign
any area that was tested poorly and direct the student to complete this
submission again. For any questions that you might have please contact
Garden Park High School or come in for a tour of the school during any
normal business hours.
