THE AMAZING WORLD OF PSYCHOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

Marcy Epperson

Psychology Teacher

Dear Parents,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Marcy Epperson and I have been teaching at Canon City High School for eight years. I received my bachelor of arts in social science/education from Colorado State University - Pueblo and a master of arts in psychology from Regis University.

I am pleased that your son/daughter will be able to share his/her ideas with me in psychology.  Since this is an elective course for students, it is fun, challenging, and a wonderful way to learn about human behavior. Every upperclassman should be allowed to understand why people act and behave the way they do in this ever-changing world.

Because this course lasts eighteen-weeks, your child and I will be discovering many new ideas about psychology such as psychological approaches, the life span, workings of the mind and body, learning and cognitive processes, personality and individuality, and psychological disorders.  We will start out as aspiring “psychologists” and learn how the mind works.  We will then venture out and explore various theories from scholars like Wilhelm Wundt, Sigmund Freud, B.F. Skinner, and Abraham Maslow.  Throughout these journeys, the student will be participating in cooperative and individual learning activities as well as voicing his/her opinion on current issues that relate to the topics being studied.

Each week students will receive a grade sheet.  Please look at the assignments (projects, quizzes, tests, etc.) and if something concerns you about your son’s/daughter’s grade, please do not hesitate to call me at 276-5905.  Your questions and feedback mean a great deal to me.

My personal mission this year is to make your child’s time in my classroom a fun and enriching experience.  With your son’s/daughter’s willingness to learn and to participate in everyday activities, success will be shown not only through the student, but also through the teacher and the parents. Let us make your child’s experience a group effort.  I thank you for your cooperation.
