Cchs math with Mr. ENsley

Dear Parent:

Thank you for taking an interest in the math program at Canon City High School.  My name is Jim Ensley, and I have the privilege and responsibility of teaching the children in our fair community the science of mathematics.  I hold a bachelor of science degree in applied math, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and have been teaching and helping to shape children into productive young adults since 1991.  I say helping, since the greatest teacher in any child’s life isn’t me – it’s you, the parent.  The impact of what you do at home to help instill in my students the value of a solid education cannot be understated; as a teacher, I depend heavily on you for that support.  Thank you.

In order for a student to take an active part in learning anything, whether it’s math, sports, or relating to people, there must be a sincere desire on their part to want to learn, and a willingness to strive toward that endeavor.  While conforming to state and local standards in teaching the math curriculum is a high priority in designing my lessons, I also strive to impart my own love for the subject by showing students that it’s interesting to me personally.  I have found that the most effective way to do this is by finding a way to help each student understand that they are valuable to me and to our world.  This takes time, because productive learning relationships are forged over many hours of hard work on the part of the student, parents, and myself.

This site has been designed to provide you, the parent, with access to the inner workings of my world as a teacher of your child; everything here has been created to serve you.  It is hoped that by helping you to help yourself become familiar with the provisions and opportunities available to help your child learn math, you will view yourself as one of the foremost factors in contributing to his or her success now, and in the future.

If I can be of further assistance, you can call 276-5870 and leave a message on my voice mail to arrange an appointment.  Again, thank you for taking the time to visit this site.  You’re the reason it’s here!
