BUSINESS EDUCATION STUDENT RECORD SHEET

Colorado Vocational Business Program learners are required to meet the following minimal CORE competencies at 80% or better.

BUSINESS MANAGEMENT COMPETENCIES

A. Business-Management Overview

List the elements of business organizations (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation)
Explain the interrelationships of management functions
Understand total quality management (TQM) / continuous quality improvement (CQI)

B. Business Organizations

Understand the elements of business organization (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation)
Compare and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each form of business organization

C. Business Ethics

Explain the rationale for the incorporation of ethics into business management
Explain the importance of confidentiality, and the respect for loyalty, integrity, honesty and authority
Explain social responsibility
Explain gender / equity issues in the workplace
Explain legal implications for business

D. Strategic Planning

Explain the need for, and develop a business plan
State the major components of, and need for a business plan / mission statement

E. Human Resource Management

Demonstrate knowledge of the staffing, structure, policy, procedures, and human resource management within an organization
Explain gender / equity issues involved in staffing
Demonstrate ability to explain employee benefit options and enrollment

F. Leadership

Compare and constant the basic managerial styles
Defend the use of one of the managerial styles within the philosophical structure of a business
Demonstrate ability to practice sound money management
Explain the importance of professional development in business (involvement and relationship with vocational student organization (VSO)

G. Financial Information

Identify and create major financial statement of a business organization
Utilize and calculate financial ratios to measure and predict financial performance
Understand how the stock market operates
Evaluate risk / return relationships in major financial investments

H. Decision Making

Apply decision-making and problem-solving skills to case studies
