  Advanced Computer Applications

 

Teacher: Mrs. DeBuano

Course Description:  Advanced Computer Applications is designed to help you strategically place yourself in the business world with the ability to use spreadsheets, databases, word processors, presentation programs and web editors. You will develop proficiency in the integration of the primary Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. You will also develop a comfort level with FrontPage, Publisher and PhotoDraw software and learn practical business applications of the more advanced features of these software tools.

Who's it for?  The software applications learned are applicable for any student, in any area – the college bound, those who are going straight to the workforce, and those who plan on being entrepreneurs!

Student Expectations: Approximately 75% of your grade will be determined by the quality and completion of assignments, and projects. Some projects will be weighted more heavily than others depending upon completion time and skill level requirements. "A" grades will be awarded to the students who demonstrate quality work through enrichment and revision techniques. The other 25% of your grade will be based on a variety of sources that might include participation, organization, effort, attendance, tardies, etc. The grading scale is set up on a total point system taken from a variety of sources so that you may work toward the a grade range of your choice:

90 - 100 = A

80 - 89 = B

70 - 79 = C

60 - 69 = D

59 and below = F

 

Attendance:  Students are allowed THREE general absences per quarter. Any general absence exceeding THREE will result in a ZERO for that day unless the student chooses to do "time-for-time" to make assignments up. Students are responsible for checking their make-up work when absent and will complete those assignments within the specified due date.

Tardies:  Students will be allowed one free tardy for the semester. All other tardies will cost the student Bonus Bucks or points off their final grade.

Daily Assignments and Projects:  Students will keep all assignments and projects organized within their 3-ring binders. All assignments must be completed and turned in on time. Fridays are designated as "official due dates" – any assignment exceeding a Friday deadline will NOT be accepted and the student will receive ZERO credit.

Class Structure:  Students will be completing assignments and projects with the computer and various software packages throughout the semester. Students will also be responsible for lecture information and be involved with group activities and group projects.

Bonus Bucks:  Students will have the opportunity to improve their grades or to purchase "privileges" by means of earning "Bonus Bucks."
