Math students have competed at CSU-Pueblo Math Day for many years.
Math Day consists of two different competitions. The first is the
Math Bowl. A team of three students compete against a team of
three from other schools in the region. Each round consists of
questions to be answered in 25 seconds or less without the use of a
calculator. The second competition is the Swanson Exam. This
is an individual competition. The Swanson Exam is a paper pencil
test (no calculators) consisting of twenty five questions that must be
answered within an eighty minute time frame. Math day also allows
students to tour the campus and meet students from the university and
area high schools. |

Students also compete in Colorado Math League. This is an
individual and school competition. Each student competing will
take a six question test once a month for 6 months. Each month the
highest five scores are submitted from our school. Awards are
given for the highest individual cumulative score and for the highest
cumulative school score. The questions cover a multitude of topics
including questions involving Algebra, Geometry,
Trigonometry. |

The math department awards an "Outstanding Math Student Award"
each school year. This award goes to a senior who has taken all
available math courses offered at Caņon City High School (Algebra
through Calculus), and who has earned all A's in these classes. If more
than one student has achieved this goal then additional awards will be
granted. |
