Introduction

Pharris Cotner

World Geography Teacher

Cañon City Middle School

This page will give my history in education and some facts about my geography classroom at Cañon City Middle School.

This is my 23nd year of teaching in the Cañon City School District. My time has been divided between two schools in our system. My first twelve years were spent at Lincoln Elementary School as a second and sixth grade teacher. My last eleven years have been at Cañon City Middle School as a seventh grade world geography teacher. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Southern Colorado in 1980. My Masters Degree was completed in 1987 from Adams State College in Alamosa, Colorado. I also have over fifty additional hours from various colleges and universities around the state.

In my seventh grade world geography classroom, we focus on the studies of physical geography of the world. We use a variety of resource materials for these studies including the Prentice Hall World Geography textbook, Nystrom World Atlas, and numerous individual student desk maps. The students also draw physical maps of different regions and continents of the world. I have included  links to the Social Studies Standards and a world geography timeline of our school year below for your viewing.
