Mary Chamberlain,

3rd Grade Teacher

Third Grade Team 2004-05 (I'm the one on bottom left)
Dear Third Grade Parents,

Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself.  I have been a teacher in District RE-2 for the past 24 years.   I decided early is my life to become some type of teacher when I began teaching swimming lessons to all ages when I was in high school.  I have a BA from UCCS in Elementary Education, and a MA from Adams State also in Elementary Education..  Of those 24, I have been at Fremont Elementary for 22 years.  I have taught a varied amount of topics and grade levels--the most being in 3rd grade.  I have found many things have changed in education these past years, but kids' enthusiasm for learning and their wonderful sense of humor has stayed the same (maybe even increased)!

My childhood was spent in Newcastle, Wyoming.  I was the youngest child with four older brothers--now if that wasn't an experience!  The name Mary has been in my family for many generations, thus we named our daughter Amanda Mary, and she continued the tradition by naming her daughter Karena Mary.  Growing up, I had several names.  Many called me "Sis" and didn't know I had another name.  We spent time going back to my mom's family home in Manchester, Iowa. My great-great-great-great grandfather began and named the town in 1868.  Because of this I have always had a fascination with local history.

I am married and have two children.  My older, Amanda, has three children, Cameron, Karena, and, Michael and  lives in South Dakota.  Our son, Michael, recently graduated from high school and joined the Marine reserves and will go to college at CSU-Pueblo majoring in engineering .  As a family, we enjoy traveling, hiking, camping, and swimming.  I truly enjoy history and have spent time during the past 6 years organizing history classes for area teachers.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year.  I have an assignment for you!!! The first week of school I would like you to write a letter about your family and child, including how he/she was named.  I would also like you to send in pictures.  These will be used to create a collage on a "Writer's Notebook"  Feel free to contact me at any time using my voice mail 784-2625

Sincerely,

Mary Chamberlain
