Composition II Course Outline
(Pre-requisite:
Pass Composition I.) Ninth graders who earned a “B” or bettering eighth
grader English and demonstrate above-average proficient through CSAP scores
and teacher recommendation may elect to take this class.
Students will refine the writing process and begin the formal
research process.
Composition II will give students strategies to become more coherent
and precise thinkers and writers.
This course will include oral and writer presentations.
Study of grammar, usage, and vocabulary are also a part of this
class.
Composition II Colorado Model Content Standards for Reading
and Writing:

Students
read and understand a variety of materials.

write and speak for a variety of purposes and audiences.

write and speak using conventional grammar, usage, sentence structure,
punctuation, capitalization, and spelling.

Learner
Outcomes:
Student will be 70% proficient in each area of grammar study through the
taking of competency quizzes. Any student who does not earn 70% in each area
will not pass the class.
Students may take as many quizzes as necessary to earn the required
percent. The first three quizzes are given in class. After that, each
student must come in before school, at lunch, or after school to obtain
additional instruction and to take retake quizzes.
