Introduction

Welcome to Sixth grade math!  My name is Kathi Carey, and I will be your child’s sixth grade math teacher for this school year.  I have taught in the Canon City School system for the past 18 years.  During those years, I have primarily taught fifth and sixth grade.   My undergraduate degree is Social Science and Education, and I have a Master’s degree in Curriculum Development.

Sixth grade is a year of enormous change. Students are beginning to feel themselves grow into adults.  They want to be treated as adults, while at the same time they have difficulty letting go of childhood behaviors. It is my job to work along with you, the parent, to help your child begin this transition.

 CLASS PROCEDURES:

·        Any work that is late will be dropped two letter grades. Late work will not be accepted after three days. If a  student is absent, they will have one day for each day that they were absent to complete their work. It is the student's responsibility to see the teacher and get any missing work.

  • Students will be keeping a math journal. The journal will hold all of their graded assignments, vocabulary and tests for the quarter.

I look forward to working with your child this year. If you should ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me either by phone or by email.
