CANON CITY HIGH SCHOOL AUTO SHOP

What is Vocational Auto?

It is an in depth study of all aspects and units of the automobile. You will spend about 25% of your time in the classroom and about 75% on the shop floor. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, you should have the knowledge and abilities to enter the auto mechanics field at an entry level and be issued a Canon City High School Vocational Certificate.

What are the requirements for a Canon City High School Vocational Certificate?

1. You must have an attendance record of less than ten days missed per year.

2. You must pass each quarter enrolled in the program with a 70% average or better.

3. You must complete Car Care during your enrollment at Canon City High School.

What will you need to bring?

1. You will need a notebook, paper and a pen or pencil every day. The instructor will not loan you one. You are expected to supply your own materials. Borrowing from other students will result in the lowering of your shop evaluation grade.

2. You must dress in a manner which will promote safety in the class operation. This will include one set of coveralls and safety glasses. (Colorado State Requirement)

What must you do to pass?

1. You must attend class daily. Since you can only work when you are in class, absences are very detrimental to your grade. An excess of three shop absences per quarter will result in a zero shop grade unless the absences are made up. If you are truant, have an unexcused absence, or are absent from class because of these, there will be no make up. Absences in excess of 10 per year will result in denial of Vocational Certificate.

2. You must arrange with your auto instructor to make up classes missed. Absences will be made up on a time for time basis or a report of five written pages turned in for every hour missed. All written assignments and absences will be made up within one week after your return to school.

3. You must be to class on time. You will be counted tardy if you are not in your seat when the tardy bell rings. If you forget your assignment or notebook and must leave the classroom to get them, you will be counted as tardy. TARDIES CANNOT BE MADE UP. THREE PER QUARTER WILL LOWER YOUR QUARTER GRADE BY ONE LETTER GRADE.

4. You must cooperate in helping the class run smoothly.

5. You must obey all safety rules. You must also pass a safety test with a score of 100%.

6. You must perform well on all tests and examinations. (70% or better)

7. You must turn all written assignments and homework in and on time. Any late papers will be accepted at 1/2 the graded value. Students that do not have ALL assignments or tests turned in and current will not be allowed to work on their own cars during class time.

8. Any reckless or careless driving of your own car on school property or customer cars during a test drive will result in one letter grade drop for the semester. In addition, you will loose the privilege of working on your own car in class for the remainder of the semester. Any student operating a vehicle on school property must have a valid drivers license.

9. All auto students will have protective clothing and safety glasses when working in the shop. If you do not have proper clothing, you will be given a written assignment to be completed in the classroom, and a zero for the day.
