CANON
CITY HIGH SCHOOL AUTO SHOP The
following items are materials and tools your son or daughter will need to
participate in the Vocational Auto Mechanics Program:
1.
COVERALLS (One piece with no
exposed buttons or zippers. No bib overalls
or two piece work uniforms)
2.
SAFETY GLASSES (No tinted
lenses. No shooting glasses.
Prescription glasses do not satisfy this requirement unless they are approved safety
glass and have safety side shields. Glasses
without a safety approval symbol on the lens and side shields are not acceptable.
Those not meeting ANSI Z87.1-1989 standards are not acceptable. Safety
glasses are available through the school at a cost of $5.00 to $5.75.)
3.
WORK SHOES (No sandals.
Some type of footwear that can be left in the student’s
auto locker as they often become wet or soiled, making them unacceptable to wear throughout the day.)
4.
3” THREE RING NOTE BOOK WITH DIVIDERS These
items are for you son/daughter’s personal use and protection.
It is their responsibility to maintain and keep them in good, safe, and
clean condition. Coveralls should
be washed weekly as grease and oil is often transferred to the interior of
customer cars. The
student will be using school issued tools and equipment.
Each will be issued an individual tool board which includes tools valued
at approximately $250. While normal wear and tear is expected, if the tool is lost
or damaged while checked out to the student, he/she will be charged for the
replacement value of the tool. The
auto shop will not order parts for repair of auto student vehicles.
Auto students are required to purchase their own repair parts.
Any vehicle entering the shop, with the exception of auto student
vehicles, will require the signing of a work order.
Some supplies (tire patches, alignment shims, etc.) are available and
must be paid for at the time of use. Extensive
safety instructions have been compiled for the benefit of students.
Safety rules and precautions must be observed by all students.
Habitual carelessness, or non-observance of these rules, is sufficient
cause dismissal from the class. Safety
will be continually stressed throughout the school year. Safety instructions will be given at the beginning of the
year and continue as each new unit is covered.
Each student must pass a safety test with a score of 100% before they are
allowed to work in the shop. Attendance
is critical to student success. All
absences can and should be made up. One
absence will carry no penalty. Two
absences will result in their grade being dropped by one letter.
Three absences will result in a two letter grade drop.
Four or more absences will result in failure of the class unless made up. |
