Dear Parents;

     Welcome to kindergarten. Some of you are first time parents, some of you have had other children in my class, and even some of you have been taught by me.

     I'd like to introduce myself to you. I have been teaching in Fremont RE-1 for 31 years. I have taught 5th grade, 1st grade, and currently 21 years in kindergarten. I graduated with a Bachelors in Education in 1976 from Adams State College, and then received my Masters in Ed. in 1983.

I look forward to meeting you and your participation in your child's education process. I welcome all kinds of help from the parents; whether it is giving time at school, parties, or activities that can be done at home.

I use a combination of reading strategies from phonics to whole language.  I expect the children to recognize all their letters and sounds, and do some word recognition.

In math, the expectations are for number recognition to 20,  rote counting to 100,  and writing numbers to 20.

One of the main expectation is in the development of social skills. The children are learning to interact with others, play in appropriate ways, and how to treat others. I feel that this is an important skill!

Again, welcome to kindergarten, as it will be a fun and exciting year!
